St. Mary's Sanctuary

The Sanctuary of Mary in Saint Lipka is located on the border between Warmia and Mazury. It is one of the most famous places of Marian devotion in Poland. The origins of this place go back as far as the fourteenth century and are mainly known as oral transmissions. According to the legend, there was a miraculous figurine of Mary and Child in this place.
The Baroque temple was well equipped. In the main altar there is a masterly tabernacle. The imitation of the legendary lime with the image of the Virgin Mary is imaged in the nave. Also worth mentioning are the frescoes decorating the walls of the church and the cloisters, as well as the gate through which the pilgrims enter the sanctuary. In the church there are baroque organ with moving figures made in 1721, their play can be heard during concerts. Traveling in the direction of Reszel is worth seeing Baroque chapels of the Rosary Way.
The legend of the birth of the sanctuary is that the Virgin and Child have appeared to the condemned man in Ketrzyn. Amazingly saved from death, the man placed the statue of Our Lady in the wide-leaved July according to her wish. Over time, prayer began here, later a chapel was built. It is worth mentioning that in 1519 the last great master of the Teutonic Order Albrecht Hohenzollern traveled barefoot to Holy Lipka. Visitors to the house are the Pilgrim's House, a cafe, and a souvenir and devotional shop.
