Pardubice is a historic town that experienced the greatest development in the 15th and 16th centuries. Its most important monument is the Renaissance chateau, which now houses the Museum of East Bohemia.
The city was founded at the end of the 13th century. Due to its location at the crossroads of important trade routes, it quickly became an important center of trade and crafts. The old town, which is entered through the gothic Green Gate, has been preserved here to this day. Here you can see many Renaissance and Baroque houses, including the famous House of Jonas, as well as historic churches such as the Church of St. Bartholomew from the 16th century.
The center of the Old Town is the square with the baroque Plague Column. On its top there is a statue of the Mother of God. The second important building of the Old Town, next to the market square, is the Renaissance Castle in Pardubice. Inside, you can see the collections of the Museum of East Bohemia. local history, culture, ethnography and art.
An interesting monument and a big attraction of Pardubice are Automatic mills on the Chrudimka River, which were built at the beginning of the 20th century at the request of the Winternitz brothers. Their architecture resembles the ancient Ishtar Gate. In turn, the modern attraction of the city is the Aquacentrum Pardubice.
