New Castle Town Nad Metuji
Local name: Zámek Nové Město Nad Metují
The castle in the New Town on the Metuje River is a rebuilt Gothic stronghold, which gained its final shape only at the beginning of the 20th century. The four-wing structure with an internal courtyard and a round tower is surrounded by a romantic garden. The interiors are furnished in the style of the early twentieth century. You can see, among others, Art Nouveau cuisine.
Initially, the castle served as a knight's seat. After the Thirty Years' War, it was abandoned and fell into ruin. At the beginning of the 20th century, it was bought by brothers Josef Bohumil and Cyril Adolf Bartoň, entrepreneurs from Nachod. They rebuilt it to its representative headquarters. The work was managed by the famous architect Dusan Jurkovic. His characteristic style is visible above all in wooden garden buildings, including the covered bridge, which is considered a technical monument.
The interiors of the castle are now open to the public. There are also several rooms available for rent. In the shared rooms, you can admire the rich wall decoration, furniture and handicrafts from the beginning of the 20th century. The fifty-meter tower called Maslenica offers a beautiful view of the city and the Giant Mountains and the Eagle Mountains.
