Litomyšl Castle has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1999. It is considered the most beautiful Renaissance monument in the whole of the Czech Republic. The magnificent facades, arcades and decorative sgraffito make a huge impression. While visiting, tourists have the opportunity to learn about the history of the palace, as well as see the chambers and exhibitions of antique pianos. In the underground, however, are works of one of the greatest Czech sculptors of the 20th century, Olbram Zoubek.
The castle was built in the 16th century by Vratislav of Pernstein as a gift for his beloved wife Maria Manrique de Lara. In the 17th and 18th centuries, subsequent owners introduced Baroque changes, with the participation of the best artists of the period. One of the chambers also has a chandelier, which was used to make the Oscar-winning film Amadeusz by Miloš Forman.
