Český Šternberk Castle

Český Šternberk Castle is located on the steep, rocky bank of the Sázava River. He was called the Pearl of Posazavia by the romantic poets. It is one of the best preserved and also the oldest dynastic castles - it dates from the mid-thirteenth century. For centuries, the castle belonged to the Šternberk family. Currently, the owner is Zdeněk Sternberg - heir to the family.
The interiors are decorated in the Baroque style and are open to the public. The sightseeing route leads through 15 richly equipped rooms. These are, among others knights' hall, chapel of St. Šebestián, a library with several thousand volumes and the study of Jiří Šternberk, which houses the family tree of the Šternberk family with over 63 portraits of ancestors in historical costumes.
At the castle, you can also admire a collection of graphics and engravings on the subject of the Thirty Years War and Dutch silver. The collection has 545 works and is one of the best known collections of this type.
