Opocno Castle

Local name: Zámek Opočno

Opocno Castle stands on a hill above the Golden Stream valley, at the foot of the Orlické Mountains. It is a Renaissance, three-winged building with an arcaded courtyard. It is surrounded by an English-style landscape park with a conservatory and small gazebos.

The castle was built in the second half of the 16th century by the noble family of Trčků of Lípa. After the Thirty Years' War, the authorities handed it over to the Colloredo family, who in the nineteenth century transported their art collections here and surrounded the castle with an English-style park. After World War II, the property was taken over by the state. Currently available to tourists.

Opocno Castle belongs to the largest Renaissance buildings in the Czech Republic. The building consists of three wings surrounding the courtyard. It is the place of numerous artistic events and performances. The interiors hide rich collections of art collected by the Colloredo family. It is primarily a collection of paintings, the oldest of which date from around 1500. A large collection represents Dutch painting of the 17th century. In addition, the rooms showcase handicrafts, jewelry, weapons and artistic glass. A library of over 12,000 volumes has also been preserved.
