Kłodzko is a historic city with a perfectly preserved medieval urban layout and numerous monuments from various eras. Its main attraction is the Kłodzko Fortress, located above the city's buildings.
The urban layout of Kłodzko was formed during the medieval location of the city and is adapted to the terrain conditions. The center is filled with the narrow valley of the Nysa Kłodzka River, over which two strategic hills rise - Góra Forteczna and Owcza Góra. Initially, there was a castle and other fortifications that were destroyed during the Thirty Years' War.
Currently, the town is dominated by a fortress, the construction of which was started by the Austrians in the 17th century. The construction of the fortifications was continued by the Prussian authorities, which included Kłodzko from 1742. In the Kłodzko Fortress, you can visit both aboveground bastions and buildings, as well as underground with narrow miners' corridors.
The fortress is not the only underground attraction of Kłodzko. Under the Old Town, you can visit the Underground Tourist Route running through historic cellars and corridors, which from the Middle Ages served local merchants and craftsmen as warehouses.
The Old Town in Kłodzko is full of historic tenement houses and churches. Among them, the Gothic Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the baroque Franciscan Monastery and the Church of Saints George and Adalbert stand out. A very atmospheric corner is the gothic St. John with baroque statues of saints, reminiscent of the famous Charles Bridge of Prague.
People interested in the history of the area can visit the Museum of the Kłodzko Region, located in the historic building. On the outskirts of the city, on the other hand, is a popular family attraction, the Minieuroland miniature park.
