The Jerusalem District covers the city and its suburbs and is now the most-visited tourist area of Israel. On its territory there are holy places of three great monotheistic religions, Christianity, Judaism and Islam.

The central part of Jerusalem is the walled Old City, divided into four quarters, Jewish, Muslim, Catholic and Armenian. Its axis is Via Dolorosa, and in the side streets you can see numerous churches of different denominations. The Old Town is also a huge bazaar where you can buy everything from food to electronics.

The most important place for Christians in Jerusalem is the Basilica of the Holy Sepulcher. It is used jointly by various Christian churches and the Cenacle is also nearby.

In turn, for Jews, the place around which religious life focuses is the Western Wall, which is a remnant of the temple of Solomon. Above it, on the temple hill, stands the Muslim Al-Aqsa Mosque and the gold-shining Dome of the Rock. Access to it is limited and impossible for Jews.

Below the Old Town stretches the Cedron Valley with a powerful Jewish cemetery. There are also tombs of kings and prophets of ancient Israel. Outside the walls, you can also see the Garden of Gethsemane and the underground Basilica of the Dormition of the Mother of God.
