The Islamic Museum in Jerusalem is located within the Al-Aqsa Mosque Complex. It occupies part of the rooms of the so-called Moroccan Mosque. In two rooms archaeological monuments, manuscripts from the 8th century, examples of ceramics and Arabic jewelry are presented.
The museum was founded in 1923. Is the oldest museum in the Palestinian territories. Since 1929, it has occupied two vaulted rooms within the Moroccan Mosque. The museum has architectural elements from Islamic buildings standing in the area of the Temple Mount. There is also a large collection of boilers that served to serve meals to the poor. The museum has in its collection about 750 valuable manuscripts, including numerous copies of the Koran.
