The church Peter's in Gallicantu is a Roman Catholic church located on the eastern slope of Mount Zion, on the outskirts of the Old City of Jerusalem. It is here, according to the Bible, Saint. Peter was to deny Jesus three times, "before he crows three times". From this event, the temple took its name, which can be literally translated, as the Church of St. Peter in the place of the rooster singing. The current shape of the temple, which is located here, is the result of the reconstruction from 1932.
The original building was built in a place that in Christian tradition, is identified with the house of Caiaphas. It was here that Jesus was brought after his capture. The Byzantine temple, which was discovered in excavations, was built in 457 and destroyed in 1010 by the Fatimids. The Crusaders rebuilt the chapel in 1102, but after the fall of Jerusalem, this building was also destroyed.
The last church was designed after the Neo-Byzantine style. Tourists can admire the mosaics adorning the temple, which for the most part show scenes of Jesus' capture and trial. In memory of the fulfillment of the prophecy, which was three times denial of Saint. Piotr, a golden rooster figurine was placed on the roof of the church above the black cross.
