The City of David in Jerusalem is a settlement and archaeological site, which is the heart of ancient Jerusalem, where the books of the Bible were written. Various excavations have been carried out here for many years, which confirm that this is the oldest part of Jerusalem. The city of David is located on a hill where old Jerusalem was unearthed from 1000 BC
The archaeological exploration of the area began in the nineteenth century, and the city was discovered by Charles Warren in 1867. Since then, many excavations have been carried out and artifacts and buildings have been discovered confirming that this is where the oldest area of the city is located. The most important archaeological sites are primarily the source of Gihon, considered the main reason why the city arose in this particular place and the ancient water systems connected to the source.
Other finds include city walls and towers, houses, rock tunnels, a rocky pool or drainage system. The city of David is included in the archaeological park open to tourists.
