The Olive Garden in Jerusalem, in today's Israel, also called the Gypsophila or Gatsemani is a park of great religious and historical significance. It is here, according to the Bible, that Jesus prayed before his capture and crucifixion. Gatsemani is located at the foot of the Mount of Olives and is a famous pilgrimage site for Christians. There are several Christian shrines in the park.
According to the tradition of the Orthodox Church, Gethsemane is the garden in which the Blessed Virgin Mary was buried. The Gospel says that Jesus stayed here and visited Gatsemani many times during his visits to Jerusalem. Also here, Judas Iscariot gave Jesus into the hands of the Great Sanhedrin.
One of the most important Christian sanctuaries, located near the Gatsemani Garden, is the All Nations Church completed in 1924. Next to it is also the Catholic chapel of the Grotto of Captain and the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, which is the supposed place where the Mother of Jesus was taken with his body to heaven.
