One of the eight gates of old Jerusalem is also called the Gate of Saint Stephen (the martyr was stoned to death in her neighborhood) or Bab Sittina Marjam (from the place of birth of the Mother of God). The most popular name, the Lion Gate, comes from the sculptures of the lions' coat of arms of Sultan Bajbars. The gate was erected in 1538 by Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent.
