The Burned House, also known as the House of the Katros Family, is an archaeological museum showing the life of the richest layer of the inhabitants of Jerusalem during the Second Temple. You can see the remains of buildings with columns, arches and other archaeological elements. Ceramics and household appliances are also shown. The multimedia presentation allows you to move into the second half of the 1st century AD
The Katros family belonged to the 24 most distinguished Jewish families of the first century. She is mentioned in the Talmud and Mishna. Its representatives held important offices in the vicinity of the Jerusalem Temple. The ruins of the Katros house were discovered after the Six Day War. They were preserved in the state from the Roman invasion in 70 AD. The house was then, like most of Jerusalem, destroyed and burned.
The exhibition there is a multimedia journey into the Roman invasion. The prosperous life of the Jerusalem elite was shown here, which was brutally interrupted by the Romans. Items found during excavations are presented here, including jewelry, dishes, furniture and decorations.
