Notre Dame Center is an institution that combines the functions of a monastery and accommodation for pilgrims and tourists coming to Jerusalem. Founded at the end of the 19th century by the French church, it now houses a small monastery, a chapel and a pilgrim's house, a hotel, a restaurant and an information point.
The center was created on the wave of interest in travel and pilgrimages to Palestine in the second half of the 19th century. The monastery, together with the church and residential buildings, was built until the interwar period. In his block you can find traces of different styles. It refers to Romanism and Gothic, in which modernist threads and motifs characteristic of Eastern art are woven.
The central, two-tower facade of the Church of the Virgin Mary is visible in the central part of the complex. Its interior is covered with rib vaults. A simple stone altar was placed in the small apse. The interior is devoid of decorations. The façade is decorated only with a statue of the Virgin Mary and a stone portal. The adjacent buildings combine Renaissance and Middle Eastern elements. They contain living rooms and a restaurant.
