Chvalčov is a small village situated in a mountain valley. It is surrounded by forested areas that are perfect for active tourism. In the commune surrounding the village there is the Hostyn hill with the Marian sanctuary which is the destination of numerous pilgrimages.
The village is, first of all, a good place to relax in the bosom of nature. A lot of old buildings have been preserved here, nicely integrated into the landscape. The surrounding forested hills are perfect for hiking, and many roads are suitable for cycling.
One of the attractions of Chvalčov and its surroundings are the ruins of a castle standing on a hill. They can be reached by a hiking trail, and from the hill there are also nice views of the surrounding area. However, most tourists are attracted by another attraction of a religious nature. It is the Holy Hill of Hostins, on top of which stands the baroque Basilica of Our Lady. it is an important pilgrimage site, the history of which is related to the story of a miraculous rescue from the Tatar invasion. On the slopes of the hill there is the Way of the Cross, the stations of which were carved by the famous artist Dusan Jurkovic.
