Slezskoostravský hard is a castle built in the 1880s near the confluence of the Ostravice River and the Łucyna River. The castle was built for military purposes due to the proximity of the Polish border. In 1534, the Gothic castle was rebuilt into a Renaissance palace. Despite the fire in 1872, it was quickly rebuilt.
Currently, the castle has an art gallery and a small historical exhibition presenting the history of fortifications, the city, the Hussite movement and the Thirty Years' War. On the first floor of the tower there is a permanent exhibition of childhood toys. Toys from the 60s, 70s and 80s of the post-revolutionary socialist era are on display. From the highest level of the tower you can admire the panorama of the city and the surrounding area.
There are also some interesting exhibits in the courtyard, for example medieval torture and punishment tools such as cages, stocks and logs. During the year, fairs, outdoor events and festivals take place in the castle courtyard, including Colors of Ostrava.
