Bath was already known in Roman times as a place of occurrence of thermal waters. To this day you can see Roman baths here. His modern career began in 1702. In a short time Bath became a fashionable resort, to which all the cream of English aristocracy came. In the eighteenth and early twentieth century, the monumental buildings of the spa center were built. Its most famous elements are a round, 200-meter string of buildings called The Circus, Royal Crescent and Assamblowe Rooms, where the balls were held. The 18th century, built-up Pulteney Bridge is considered the symbol of Bath.

Bath is associated with one of the most famous British writers, Jane Austen. The author of "Duma and Prejudice" and "Prudent and Romantic" lived here in 1801-1805 and portrayed Bath on the pages of the novel "Northanger Abbey" and "Persuasion." Today the Jane Austen Center reminds of the character of the writer, with numerous souvenirs, period costumes and references to her books.
