Wye Valley

The Wye River Valley is on the border between England and Wales. Its significant part with an area of 326 km2 was included in the so-called "An area of outstanding natural beauty" (AONB). There are numerous limestone gorges and dense forests. The region is known for its wide diversity of fauna and flora. In the valley you can walk, climb rocks, explore caves and kayak. Walking, cycling and horse riding paths have also been marked out here.

In order to protect the animals living in the valley, nature reserves were created here. You can meet here, among others small horseshoe colonies, endangered bat species. In 2006, a record-breaking large group of 890 individuals was discovered. Peregrine falcons, hawks, ravens and lilies live here. There is also a small population of colorful moths of the species Oecophora bractella.

Near the river Wye runs the so-called The Offy embankment, built in the 8th century, most probably on the order of Offy, the then ruler of Mercia. With intervals it stretches for 240 km.
