Malvern Hills
Malvern Hills is a mountain range, a significant part of which is included in the AONB, a protected "area of outstanding natural beauty". There are many routes for hiking, biking and horseback riding. You can also practice orienteering, paragliding, climbing and fishing. Two long-distance routes run through the Malvern Hills area - the 50-kilometer Worcestershire Way and the 175-kilometer Geopark Way.
There are many springs in the hills, including some recognized as having miraculous properties. Due to the spring water, the town of Melvern has been a health resort since the 19th century. A nature reserve was also established here. They live here, among others dormice, a species of bats - western barbs, zigzag vipers and crested newts. Black poplar is a characteristic species of trees growing here.
The landscape of the hills is said to have inspired JRR Tolkien. It is also here that the famous recordings of the writer reading fragments of "The Hobbit" and "The Fellowship of the Ring" were made.
