Bristol Zoo

Bristol Zoo located in the Clifton District, near the historic Clifton Suspension Bridge. The 4.85 hectare facility is the oldest zoo in the world founded outside the capital of the country. It was opened in 1836 as the fifth zoo in the world. It has been operating continuously since the 19th century despite historical turmoil.

The zoo has 450 species of animals and 7,155 individual individuals. Some of the parts of the garden are protected as a monument, including a giraffe pavilion. Bristol Zoo has had many important moments in its history. One of them is the birth of the popular polar bear Sebastian in 1958 or the reproduction of several rare animal species, including saimiri - for the first time in the UK. The peak of the garden's popularity fell in 1967, when the zoo was visited by 1,134,488 people, while still trying to attract new visitors. Being in the Bristol Zoo, you can admire or feed some animals up close during special events.
