The Roman Baths

The complex of authentic Roman baths consists of four elements: a temple, a holy source, a bathhouse and a museum. Among the exhibits collected in the latter are Celtic and Roman items from the period of the Empire of the British Isles. The baths have hot water pools, sculptures and presentations of architectural and cultural elements characteristic of the Roman Empire. The guides wear traditional Roman period clothing.

The museum's collections include items that were thrown into the holy source as a goddess sacrifice. Among them is a collection of 12 thousand coins, being the largest votive collection in Great Britain. Also presented here is the head of Minerva, probably from the first century.

The first sanctuary was built here by the Celts, thus worshiping the goddess Sulis. In its place, the Romans built the temple of Minerva and baths. Over the centuries they have undergone several significant conversions. Currently, they are located in buildings from the 18th century.
