Trencin is a city in the Vag Valley, which is known primarily from the gothic castle standing on the hill. Below the stronghold stretches the Old Town with several squares connected by cobbled streets. Numerous cafes and restaurants operate in the picturesque surroundings.
Entering the city immediately catches the walled castle block standing on a steep hill. The fortress was built on the spot where a Roman camp was located in the 2nd century. His inscription is an inscription recording victory over Markomanom.
Between the Castle and the Old Town there is a parish church dedicated to the Nativity of the Virgin Mary. From the Gothic temple you can descend to the city by covered, wooden Farski Stairs.
The city center with narrow streets and squares is a place where both residents and tourists meet. You can see here not only multi-story tenement houses with decorated facades, but also the historic hangman's house, the early Baroque Piarist monastery complex, which currently hosts concerts, the Baroque plague column and the City Tower, from which there is a beautiful view of the countryside.
Trencin is also a thriving cultural center. Throughout the year, the Castle hosts medieval tournaments, feasts and dance shows, while in the city itself the most important events include the film festival and the Pohoda summer music festival, which attracts guests from all over Slovakia.
