Milan Rastislav Štefánik's Grave
Local name: Mohyla Milana Rastislava Štefánika
The grave of Milan Rostislav Stefanik is located at the top of Bradlo in the Myjawa Foothills. It is a stone structure of travertine blocks designed by Dusan Jurkovic. The grave consists of two terraces with 12-meter pylons on the corners. In the central part there is the proper grave of general Stefanik.
General Stefanik was a Slovak politician, astronomer, engineer and pilot. He sought the creation of the Czechoslovak state after World War I. He was to become the minister of war in the government formed in 1918. He died in a plane crash returning from Italy to the country in 1919. He was buried near the hometown of Kosariska, in a specially designed tomb at Bradla Peak. The tomb was created as a result of social fundraising.
The creator of the stone, monumental building is a Slovak architect, the creator of world-famous cemeteries from World War I, Dusan Jurkovic. According to his design, a terrace elevation was built with pylons terminated at the corners. The grave itself is a stone sarcophagus decorated with inscriptions.
