Dobrá Voda Castle
Local name: Hrad Dobrá Voda
Dobra Woda is a ruin of a gothic castle located on a hill with a height of 320 m above sea level in the central part of the Little Carpathians. The ruin area covers 8,467 m² and is part of the Slopy Nature Reserve. The name of the fortress is related to the numerous drinking water sources in the vicinity. Only heavily damaged fragments of walls and remains of towers have survived to modern times.
The castle was built in the 13th century as a watchtower near the Czech road. Initially, it was a royal property, then the fortress passed into the hands of noble families. Relatively heavily fortified, it suffered serious damage only in the 18th century during the Rakoczy uprising. Soon after, it was abandoned and began to fall into disrepair.
After visiting the ruins, it is also worth visiting the memorial chamber of the Slovak writer and fairy tale writer Ján Hollý in the village. He spent the last years of his life in Dobra Woda.
