Blatnica is a tourist destination in Velka Fatra and for many tourists it is a base for hiking in these mountains. A lot of traditional buildings and two castles have been preserved here.

The village has existed since the Middle Ages, and the construction of the Blatnica Castle began in the 13th century. Currently, its ruins standing on a hill outside the village are among the main attractions of Blatnica. In turn, two surviving castles come from the 18th century, a late baroque and a classicist one. The latter now houses a museum.

In the past, the inhabitants of Blatnica were involved in the production of oils and the processing of saffron. It brought big profits, which can be seen in the preserved buildings of the village. There are traditional brick houses with large gates leading into closed courtyards.

The vicinity of Blatnica is a perfect place for active tourism. There are areas of the Velka Fatra National Park with numerous hiking trails.
