The Great Fatra National Park covers virtually the entire mountain group of this name. It is located in the west of Slovakia, near Banská Bystrica and Ruzomberok. The landscapes of Velka Fatra are very diverse. You can see both the rounded ridges covered with mountain meadows and the rocky peaks. The whole area of the park is cut with a dense network of tourist routes.
The Great Fatra National Park is attractive in terms of tourism due to the possibility of both day and long mountain trips. This group is formed of long ridges, from which the routes lead to the main tourist destinations of the area, Donovaly, Ruzomberok, and Liptovská Osada. At the same time, thanks to shelters and so-called utulas, or tourist huts, you can wander here for several days without going down the valleys.
Due to the fact that the ridges of Veľká Fatra are exposed and covered with halls, they offer magnificent views of the Little Fara, the Low Tatras, the Tatra Mountains and the Kremnickie Mountains. The highest peak of this region is Ostredok with a height of 1592 m above sea level
