Zwoleński Castle stands on a hill above the city. It is a medieval building surrounded by defensive walls. Her appearance brings to mind Italian city palaces. Currently, it houses exhibitions of the Slovak National Gallery devoted mainly to medieval painting.
The castle was built by Louis the Great in the mid-fourteenth century. It was his hunting residence and resting place. It was built on the model of Italian palaces, hence the attic and corner turrets visible in the body until today.
Reconstruction of the castle into a stronghold took place during the time of Maciej Korwin. It became an important link in Hungary's defense against the Turks. From the time of World War II, the castle was renovated and eventually exhibited in the exhibition of the Slovak National Gallery. You can see copies of the sculpture from the famous altar from Levoca and gothic wall paintings. The restored Royal Hall is also open to visitors.
