Museum of the Orava Village

Local name: Múzeum Oravskej Dediny

The Museum of the Orava Village is located in the Brestov clearing near Zuberec. In the beautiful surroundings of the Western Tatras, on the Cold Stream flowing through the center of the area, there are several dozen objects from different corners of Orava, showing the lives of the inhabitants of these areas in the past.

The open-air museum is divided into five sectors. The Lower Silesian Market Square shows life in a rich part of southern Orava. Loose development of a small town dominates here. Zamagurska Street, in turn, centers around the lives of wealthy farmers and farmers. You can see here what typical farms in Orava looked like. Góralskie Łazy is a part of the open-air museum referring to the lives of the poorest inhabitants of Orava who lived in the villages of the Beskids. The basis of their maintenance was shepherding and work in the woods.

The stream flowing through the Museum grounds was used to show craft factories that could work thanks to the power of water. You can see a mill, full farm and sawmill here. Above the valley, on a hill, stands the wooden Gothic church of Saint Elizabeth, which is the dominant feature of the whole area.
