Ghajnsielem is a tourist and historic city on Gozo. Its territory also includes the neighboring island of Comino with nice beaches and picturesque bays.

The city's Gozo Ferry Terminal is the main port for connecting to Malta. There are also smaller ferries to the neighboring island of Comino. They are adapted to the habits of tourists who like to sleep on Gozo but rest on the beaches of Comino. There is also Port Mgarr, where sightseeing and fishing boats and yachts are moored.

The city was founded in the 16th century and developed mainly as a port. Due to its strategic importance, it was fortified. The remains of the fortifications are Fort Chambray, St. Mary, Tower of Mgarr ix-Xini and large fragments of the city walls. Ghajnsielem is also known for its churches, including the parish Church in Ghajnsiel, which is devoted to Our Lady of Loreto, which towers over the buildings. A replica of the Grotto of Lourdes was also built here, in which there were Marian apparitions.

The most popular holiday destinations in Ghajnsielem are on the neighboring island of Comino. The most famous place is the Blue Lagoon Beach, located directly opposite the port, on the strait separating the two islands. Other popular beaches include Crystal Lagoon, Santa Maria Bay with the Santa Maria Caves and San Niklaw Bay.
