Popeye Village is a movie village, built in 1979 for the film about the adventures of the brave sailor Popey with Robin Williams in the title role. The buildings, preserved together with film equipment, were turned into an amusement park. There is a mini golf course, a changing room full of movie costumes and a cinema, where you can see documents from the Popey's set.
On the streets of Sweetheaven, because this is the town of sailor Popey, the main characters of the film stroll, i.e. properly dressed amusement park employees who pose for commemorative photographs. The village has shops, a dental office, a school, and fire brigade - a complete, fully equipped and functional film universe has been preserved.
Malta does not have its own forest resources, which is why the village builders used timber erected from the Netherlands to erect it - the shingles covering the roofs come from Canada. Popey Village is rented for company and occasional events - it is particularly popular as a place to organize wedding parties.
