Church of Our Lady of Loreto
Local name: Knisja tal-Madonna ta 'Loreto
Ghajnsielem Parish Church is an old parish church in Ghajnsielem, erected in 1820, obtained its current shape after expansion in 1877. The temple was erected in honor of the Virgin of Loreto after it appeared to a local farmer, whose name was Anglu Grech. Currently, on the street of his name near the church there is a monument commemorating the scene of the meeting with the Virgin Mary.
In the main altar of the church you can see the image of the Virgin of Loreto, by the local painter, Michele Bussutil and four works by Giuseppe Calì (1846-1930) - a painter bearing the nickname "Devil with a brush" because of the speed of painting and the number of paintings he placed in dozens of Maltese churches.
In 1865, Malta was devastated by a plague that bypassed Ghajnsiel. A year later, the city's residents bought a statue of Our Lady of Loreto in Marseille and offered it to the church as a votive offering for saving from death.
