Rotunda St. John Baptist Church

St. Rotunda John Baptist Church is a Roman Catholic temple dedicated to St. John the Baptist, erected in 1952-1970. The dome crowning the church with an internal diameter of 27 m, a height of 75 m and a weight of about 45 thousand. tons are supported on eight concrete internal pillars. The dome also serves as a viewpoint.

The rotunda was designed by Joseph D'Amato, modeled on the Basilica of Santa Maria della Salute in Venice. The monumental building was erected from the contributions of local people, mainly fishermen and farmers, who undertook to make monthly donations. During construction, the faithful used the previous temple around which a new church was built.

Chapel dedicated to St. John the Baptist already existed in 1606. At the end of the 17th century a church was erected, which was gradually expanded to finish work in 1830. The temple was demolished in 1972, and the sculptures from its equipment were transferred to the church museum.
