Rovigo is a historic city with many Renaissance monuments. Venetian influences are visible in its architecture.
From the 11th century the city belonged to the d'Este family ruling in nearby Ferrara, and in the 15th century it came under Venetian influence. It was this period that most fully shaped its architecture. Rovigo's Old Town is considered one of the pearls of the Veneto region.
The center of the Old Town is surrounded by the Renaissance and Neoclassical townhouses of Piazza Vittorio Emanuele. The most important monuments of Rovigno and its attractions include the cathedral built in the 11th century and completely rebuilt in the second half of the 15th century, the octagonal church Madonna del Soccorso, also known as the Rotunda, the medieval Dona tower, and Renaissance and Classicist palaces belonging to the most important families.
