The Venetian Basilica of Santa Maria della Salute was built in the seventeenth century as a votive offering after the plague epidemic that deprived about one third of the city's inhabitants. The spacious, bright interior attracts the attention of the great masters. In the main altar there is a picture of Titian depicting Saint Mark with Saints Cosmic, Damian, Sebastian and Rochem. The view of the exhortation of the Holy Spirit by this artist can also be admired in one of the side altars. We will also find the "Wedding in Cana Galileo" by Jacopo Tintoretto.
The mighty Baroque building was designed by Baldassare Longhen on an eight-sided plan surrounded by arcades and topped with a semicircular dome. Every year on November 21, there is a solemn procession of thanksgiving for saving the city after the plague. It is run after a specially prepared pontoon platform, from the square. Mark through the Grand Canal to the Basilica of Santa Maria della Salute.
