Debrecen is the second largest city in Hungary and one of the country's leading academic and industrial centers. There is a botanical garden and a zoo within the university.
Centrum Debreczyna is Targowa Street, whose name refers to fairs held here in the Middle Ages. Currently, it is built-up with tenement houses mainly from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. At its end stands the Great Church belonging to the Calvinist church with a neoclassical, two-tower facade.
The biggest attraction of Debrecen is the so-called Great Forest, i.e. a vast city park with a modern Aquaticum thermal swimming pool complex. There are thermal baths, an indoor aquapark, a saunarium and an outdoor swimming pool. Baths use local water with a temperature exceeding 30 degrees Celsius.
The Lajos Kossuth University with its botanical and zoo gardens is also located in the same area. A wine festival and a great folklore festival take place here, which gathers bands from all over the country and many European countries. There is also an amusement park in the Great Forest with dozens of attractions for children and adults.
