Schliersee is a tourist and holiday destination in the Alps, on the lake of the same name. In winter, it is a large winter sports center, and in summer, it is an active tourism center, which also boasts some interesting monuments.
The town has medieval roots, and the oldest surviving house dates back to around 1500. Today it houses a museum. A highlight of Schliersee is the private open-air museum of Markus Wasmeier, which recreates the appearance of a typical farm in the area from the mid-17th century.
The surroundings of Schliersee are exceptionally attractive in terms of views. In addition to Lake Schliersee, there is also a second lake, Lake Spitzing. The scenic hiking trail also leads to the Josefstaler Falls. Both lakes are used by water sports enthusiasts in the summer. You can go canoeing, boating, paddleboarding, paddleboarding, and swimming on hot days at the Schliersee bathing area.
In winter, the whole area turns into a ski resort. There are both cross-country and downhill tracks. They are served by numerous ski lifts and gondola lifts. Some of them, such as the Taubenstein Cable Car, the Schliersberg Cable Car and the Schliserbergalm Cable Car, operate all year round and allow you to reach higher hiking trails in summer.
