The Neue Rathaus is a magnificent neo-Gothic building located in the center of Munich on St. Mary's Square (Marienplatz). Is the seat of the mayor and city administration. On the top of the 85-meter town hall tower there is a viewing terrace from which there is a wonderful view of the city. The tower also has 43 bells and a clock mechanism, which, in terms of size, ranks fourth in the world.
The construction of the Town Hall lasted from 1867 to 1909. The monumental building has a richly decorated facade whose decorations depict the history of Bavaria and numerous glass windows with local, regional, national, international and religious motifs. Inside the town hall there are six courtyards, conference rooms and offices. Particularly noteworthy is the Hauberrer hall, one of the few rooms furnished with original furniture. The town hall can be viewed not only from the outside, many historic halls are open to the public.
In the basement of the Town Hall, which has an extremely richly painted vault, is located Ratskeller, a traditional restaurant operating in Munich since 1867.
