The palace complex designed by Georg von Dollmann and Julius Hofmann was modeled on the French Versailles. Construction works started in 1878 were interrupted by the death of the Bavarian King Ludwig II Wittelsbach - the whole project was never implemented. Currently, visitors are offered interiors and gardens. The palace houses the Museum of Louis II.
