OYBIN tourist attractions

Oybin is a spa and recreational town in the Zittau Mountains. Above its low, mostly wooden buildings, the sandstone Mount Oybin rises with the ruins of a castle and monastery, and the area is known for its rock towns and picturesque hiking trails.

The Oybin area is sometimes called the little brother of Saxon Switzerland. There are also sandstone inselbergs, rock labyrinths and picturesque viewpoints. Oybin Mountain, the most characteristic element of the landscape, offers a wealth of views. On its plateau there are the ruins of the medieval castle and monastery of Oybin. It was one of Charles IV's favorite residences, and the monastery operated until the Reformation. The ruins standing on the rocks look monumental and romantic. The most important German painters of the first half of the 19th century came to paint them for a reason.

Oybin Resort has many other tourist attractions as well. On the way to the castle, you can see a small mountain church with a wooden tower. There is also a Museum of Miniatures here, and the buildings of the town perfectly match the surrounding landscape.
