Castle and Monastery Oybin

The Gothic castle of Charles IV and the Celestine monastery obtained their final form in the fourteenth century. Buildings abandoned during the Reformation, were gradually destroyed. In the nineteenth century, they became one of the most popular romantic ruins in Germany, which the most important painters of the era - Caspar David Friedrich and Carl Gustav Carus - immortalized in their works.
