The Shopping Castle was the summer residence of the Austrian Emperor Ferdinand I. It is a Baroque building whose interiors were largely rebuilt in the 19th century in accordance with the fashion of the time. You can see here representative rooms with wall paintings, as well as a billiard room, bedroom or study of the emperor.
The beginnings of the castle date back to medieval times. However, the small stronghold was rebuilt many times, becoming a noble residence in the 16th century. In 1805, after the Napoleonic wars, the castle passed into the hands of the Habsburgs. In 1848, after abdication, Emperor Ferdinand I and his wife settled there. He was also the last crowned king of the Czech Republic. In the castle chapel in 1900 the wedding of the heir to the Austrian throne Franz Ferdinand with Zofia Chotkova took place.
The castle is a building built on the plan of an irregular quadrangle with an internal courtyard. An arcaded gallery has survived in its upper parts. In front of the main entrance there is a complex of former farm buildings, with stables and a coach house. The castle is surrounded by an English park and French geometrical gardens. The interiors are decorated with splendor. There is a collection of Czech paintings from the 19th century, valuable rococo and classical furniture as well as musical instruments. In the palace you can also see a passenger elevator from 1870, which was installed for the convenience of the ailing emperor.
