Kochel am See is a tourist village at the foot of the Bavarian Alps, situated between the charming lakes Kochelsee and Walchensee. It is a center of active tourism, including water tourism, and a small thermal spa.

The main attraction of Kochel am See is the nearby Walchen Lake. It is one of the most beautiful alpine reservoirs in Germany. Due to the altitude difference between Lake Walchen and Lake Kochel, the Wlachensee hydroelectric power plant was built there already in the interwar period. Today it is a monument of technology, but it also fulfills its function.

The surroundings of Kochel am See are perfect for active tourism. A popular excursion destination is the Herzogstand summit, which can also be reached on the Herzogstand Railway. There are also numerous hiking trails leading along the slopes of the surrounding mountains and over the lakes.

Lakes Kochel and Walchen are popular places for water sports. There are canoe and other water equipment rentals. You can go windsurfing, paddleboarding, canoeing or go pedalo. Another attraction of Kochel am See are the Kristall Thermal Baths, which use the local thermal springs.
