Loket is a picturesque town in the bend of the Ohrza River, famous for its medieval castle that starred in the James Bond movie Cassino Royale. The buildings of the Old Town with a charming market square have also been preserved here.

The name of the city comes from its location in a river bend that looks like a human elbow. Its history is inextricably linked with Loket Castle. Its origins date back to the 12th century, and the city was founded two centuries later. The stronghold, said to be unconquered, was the favorite resting place of Emperor Charles IV.

The castle, standing on a rock and towering over the city, is the biggest attraction of the city of Loket. Here you can visit the castle chambers, look at the surrounding area from the medieval tower and see the wonderful collection of porcelain that was produced in Loket in the 19th century.

Below the castle is the Old Town, the central point of which is the elongated market square with the Holy Trinity Column. There is also an early-Baroque town hall, and the 18th-century church of St. Wenceslas. In the basement of the town hall you can visit the Museum of Bookbinding. The Old Town is surrounded by the remains of defensive walls from the Middle Ages.
