Terrassa is a city with a long history and numerous monuments associated with it. On Roman ruins stands the church of St. Peter and St. Mary. There are also modernist buildings from the time of great industrial development in the area.
In antiquity, the Roman city of Egara existed at the site of Terrassa. During the migration of peoples, the Visigoths had their center there, and already in the 5th century a diocese was established here. Today's Cathedral of Terrassa is a mixture of styles ranging from Gothic to Modernism. In turn, the medieval Carthusian castle-monastery, which has preserved its original features, houses the Terrassa Museum.
The greatest period of the town's development took place in the 19th century, when the textile industry developed here. In addition to the factories themselves, many industrialist and bourgeois seats were built here. Many of them, such as Casa Baumann or Masia Freixa, are interesting examples of modernism. In the headquarters of one of the families there is the Casa Alegre de Sagrera Museum, which shows the lives of families belonging to the local bourgeoisie. The modern Museum of Science and Technology of Catalonia is a reference to the industrial past of the city.
Terrassa is a green city with lots of walking areas. The largest of them is Vallparadis Park, where in addition to alleys and recreational areas, you can also take a ride on the Vallparadis Railway. The picturesque Park Sant Jordi is also worth visiting.
