Almada is a city in the neighborhood of Lisbon, on the other side of the Tagus River. It is known primarily for the monumental statue of Christ the King, from which you can admire a beautiful view of the capital.
Almada's biggest attraction is the statue of Christ the King, which is officially called the National Shrine of Christ the King. The figure, 28 m high, is placed on an 82 m plinth. It was built in 1959 and many people associate it with Rio de Janeiro. It is one of the best viewpoints in the entire Lisbon area. It offers panoramic views of the river and the capital on the other side.
Modern buildings dominate Almada, but there are also historic mansions, such as Casa da Cerca, which is open to the public. The city is also eagerly visited by tourists due to its sandy beaches. This part of the coast, called Costa da Caparica, is sandy and well-developed. There are swimming equipment rentals, sunbeds and umbrellas, water sports centers, but also secluded places where you can relax away from the crowds.
