Casa da Cerca is the Contemporary Art Center in Almada. The mission of this research center is to disseminate contemporary art with special regard to the local design discipline. At the same time, Casa da Cerca is a museum that regularly hosts temporary exhibitions, workshops and themed events. The Jardim Botânico garden, founded in 2001, is also located next to the center.
In the museum we will find several exhibition spaces, among others Galeria Patio, Sculpture Park or Chapel. The adaptation of the building for the gallery and the separation of these zones is due to the first director of Casa da Cerca: Pintor Rogério Ribeir. Thanks to him, the Center for Contemporary Art opened its doors to visitors in 1993. Since then, the facility has been constantly operating and developing, presenting the works of artists from around the world and helping local students develop.
