The zoo located in Lisbon has over 2,000 animals representing about 350 species. The idea of creating a zoo was born in 1882. It was officially opened in 1884. At that moment there were already over 1,100 animals. They came from the foundations of the royal family and distinguished dignitaries. The most interesting and rarest animals that can be seen in the Portuguese zoo include the Australian koala, white tigers and white rhinos.
Additionally, in the garden you can watch dolphins, snakes and lizards, feeding sea lions and pelicans. Another attraction is the enchanted forest where you can observe slow-flying birds. The garden can be visited from the level of the cable car trip.
The zoo in Lisbon has belonged to the European Association of Zoos and Aquariums (EAZA) since 1992.
