+1 Attraction inside
The Santa Justa elevator is located in the Baixa district and is one of the symbols of the city center. It connects this district with the Carmo Square located in the Chiado district.
One of the two historic Elevador de Santa Justa lifts can go to the lookout point, which offers a very good panoramic view of the city.
It was built in 1900-1902 according to the design of Raoul Mesnier du Ponsard. It is a neo-Gothic 45-meter structure. Initially, the mechanism was powered by steam until the invention of the electric motor. This is the only historic elevator in Lisbon that moves vertically. Other lifts can be called funiculars. Due to its design, the elevator is often compared to the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
