Poppi is a historic town situated on a hill above Tuscany's Casentino Valley. A castle, visible from a distance, rises above its buildings, dating back to the 12th century.
The advantages of the village are its beautiful location combined with historic architecture. It is surrounded by forested hills protected by the Casentinesi Forests National Park. He writes, he writes, on numerous trails leading through them, and from the vantage points, the panorama of Poppi looks exceptionally picturesque.
Its greatest attraction, the castle of the Counts of Guidi, stands out in the Poppi skyline. It is a medieval building with a square tower, which is a great viewpoint over the surrounding area. Within its walls there is a library famous for its collection of manuscripts, and in the chapel and several rooms you can see gothic and renaissance frescoes.
Many nice historic houses and a few valuable churches have been preserved in the town surrounding the castle. The most important of them is the Sanctuary of Madonna del Morbo built on a hexagonal plan and the monastery of Camaldoli surrounded by a garden. In the area, you can also see a former noble villa housing a museum. A historic arboretum with many rare species of trees stretches around it.
